Digital & Offset Printing

Most printing these days is either "offset" or "digital" and Cedar does both. In general, offset printing uses a mechanical press and liquid inks, while digital printing uses electronic systems and dry toners. Each has its strong points, and which method to use is based on how much time is available, the quality required, budgetary concerns, etc.

Digital printing's advantages include quick production time, variable data capability and lower cost for short runs. Cedar produces most digital orders within a day or two, and often in just hours. Variable data is often used for marketing mailings; we print the recipient's address at the same time we print the rest of the piece, saving time and money, and we can also vary information throughout the mailer to increase useability and response rates.

Offset printing's advantages include higher quality for many products and lower cost for longer runs. Standard timing for most offset orders is 5-7 business days, though rush service is often available. Variable data is not available with offset printing, although some items are offset printed first and then variable data is added using digital printing.
